Tabs
Preferences Window
These tabs are available within the Preferences Window, which can be called up from the iWisdom Preferences menu (on the Mac) or from the Tools Options menu (on any platform).
General Tab
This tab allows the user to enter information about the user and his or her preferences. This information will be preserved from session to session in a location that is dependent on your operating system. The following information may be entered.
- Check Automatically for New Version
- When this box is checked (which is the default), iWisdom will attempt to check for a new version each time it is launched. (This requires an active Internet connection.) If you have the latest version, then this will all be done transparently. If a later version is available, you will be offered an opportunity to visit our Web site to read about it, and download it if you would like.
- Check Now for New Version
- When this button is pressed, iWisdom will attempt to check for a new version. (This requires an active Internet connection.) If you have the latest version, then you will be notified that no further action is necessary. If a later version is available, you will be offered an opportunity to visit our Web site to read about it, and download it if you would like.
- Sel to Display Tab
- This drop-down menu allows you to specify whether you want to be transferred to the Item Tab when you Select (by clicking on) an item on the List Tab. The default is Yes. If you specify No, then clicking on an Item will select the Item, but leave you on the current Tab.
- Look and Feel
- Depending on your platform, you may be able to choose between two or more different looks for your iWisdom interface. Select one from the drop-down menu. You may need to quit iWisdom and then re-launch it in order for your interface change(s) to take effect.
- Appearance
- If you are running on Mac OS X, then you may choose the "brushed metal" look for iWisdom, instead of the normal appearance. You may need to quit iWisdom and then re-launch it in order for your interface change(s) to take effect.
- Menu Location
- If you are running on Mac OS X, then you may choose to have your menu at the top of your application Window (Windows style) or at the top of your screen (Mac style). You may need to quit iWisdom and then re-launch it in order for your interface change(s) to take effect.
- Line Endings
- Text files may use different characters to indicate ends of lines, usually depending on the operating system platform. Windows style line endings are a carriage return followed by a line feed. Old-style Mac line endings simple carriage returns. Unix, and newer-style Mac line endings are simple line feeds. iWisdom will normally default to the appropriate line endings depending on the platform you are running on. However, there may be cases in which you want to generate line endings for a different platform. In particular, some current versions of Mac applications, including AppleWorks, seem to only understand traditional or "classic" Mac line endings. You may choose the desired line endings for output files that are saved or generated from templates using this drop-down menu. Your changes here will take effect immediately.
- File Chooser
- If you are running on Mac OS X, then you may choose between Swing or AWT file choosers. AWT will produce file chooser dialogs, in some cases, that may look more "native" than the equivalent Swing dialogs. However the AWT file chooser has more limited functionality, so even if you choose AWT, some of the dialogs you see may be Swing dialogs. You may need to quit iWisdom and then re-launch it in order for your interface change(s) to take effect.
- iWisdom Tips: Show tips at startup?
- Checking this box will show the Tips Window, and will cause the Tips Window to be shown automatically each time iWisdom is launched. By default, this option is initially turned on when iWisdom is first installed.
- Split Pane: Horizontal Split?
- Checking this box will cause the main iWisdom screen to be split horizontally, with the List and Categories tabs on the left, and the Display and Edit tabs on the right. Unchecking this box will cause the main screen to be split vertically instead, with the List/Categories tabs on the top, and the Display/Edit tabs on the bottom.
