Tabs
Edit Tab
This tab allows the user to view and modify the main fields on a single wisdom item.
See Navigation Tools or the List Tab for instructions on how to navigate to a particular item.
The View Tab will allow you to change the sort sequence and filtering criteria for the list of wisdom items, which will alter the sequence and selection of items that may appear on the Item Tab.
The following field appears on this screen. Note that only Title and Body are required fields -- the rest are optional.
- Title
- Simply type the desired text into this area. This would be a short, descriptive title for the wisdom item.
The remaining fields for an item are spread across three separate tabs.
Content
The following fields appear on this tab.
- Category
- You may select an existing category from the drop-down list, or type in a new one being used for the first time. Enter the first few characters of an existing category to position to that item in the list, then hit Return/Enter to select that category for this item. Multiple category levels can be separated by a forward slash ('/') or a period ('.'). Spaces before or after the punctuation characters are optional. However, after you enter your data, iWisdom will standardize your entry by converting slashes to periods and removing surrounding spaces. You may also enter multiple categories (with each category including one or more levels), with different categories separated by commas.
- Body
-
Enter the text of the wisdom item here. If it is a direct quotation, then you may want to surround the wisdom in quotation marks.
If you wish to use quotation marks, enter only normal "straight" quotation marks and apostrophes -- they will be converted to their curly equivalents for display purposes. Also, enter two consecutive dashes for an em dash: the appropriate em dash character will be generated for display purposes.
You may use limited XHTML tags within this field to format your wisdom item to a certain degree. The default will be to treat each wisdom item as a single paragraph.
If you choose to use embedded XHTML tags, be aware of the following general guidelines.
- Although the parser is fairly tolerant, in general you should use syntactically correct XHTML, being sure to close all open tags.
- No CSS support is available.
- The pre (pre-formatted) tag will not be honored or preserved.
- Rating
- Use the slider to set the Rating to a value between 1 and 5.
Author
The following fields appear on this tab.
- Author(s)
- Enter the name(s) of the author(s) here. Enter them with the first name first. If there are two authors, enter them with "and" in between the names. For example, "Tom Peters and Robert H. Waterman Jr.". If there are three or more authors, put a comma after the name of the first author, and all authors other than the last two, then insert the word "and" to separate the last name from the next-to-last. For example, "Mark Twain, Henry Miller and Tom Wolfe". You may select an existing author from the drop-down list, or type in a new one. Choosing an existing author will automatically supply the contents of the other author fields, if any, and changing those other fields for this item will also change the following associated author values for other items sharing the same author.
- Author Info
- Enter any relevant information about the author that you would like to have appear after his or her name. This will be appended to the name of the author so that, if you wanted the author to appear as "Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple", you would enter "Steve Jobs" in the Author field, and "CEO of Apple" in the Author Info field.
- Author Link
- Enter a URL for the author. If none is specified, then a Wikipedia entry will be presumed.
Work
The following fields appear on this tab.
- Source
- The title of the book or other source type. If a book, enter the title and subtitle (if any) together in this field. If a periodical, enter the title of the periodical here. You may select an existing source from the drop-down list, or type in a new one. Selecting an existing source will automatically fill in the existing values for the other fields on the Work tab, with the exception of Pages.
- Source Type
- Select a value from the drop-down list. The following values are available.
- unknown
- Article
- Book
- CD
- Essay
- Film
- Lecture
- Play
- Poem
- Song
- Speech
- Story
- Web Log
- Web Page
- Year
- Enter the 4-digit year of initial publication for the source.
- Minor Title
- If a periodical, enter the name of the article here, for example.
- Source Link
- If there is a URL for the source itself, enter it here.
- Source ID
- Enter the 10-digit ISBN here, for a book. This will enable a link to the source within Amazon.com.
- Pages
- Enter page numbers within the source on which the body will be found.
- Rights
- Enter the type of rights protecting the source (most typically, you would enter "Copyright" in this field).
- By
- Enter the name of the copyright holder, or owner of other rights specified above, which may or may not be the same as the author.
- Publisher
- Enter the name of the publisher.
- City
- Enter the name of the city in which the publisher is based.
