Wisdom Folder

iWisdom can open one collection of wisdom items at a time. Each wisdom collection will be saved as a folder containing sub-folders and XML files.

The disk representation of your wisdom collection is updated automatically as you update your wisdom within iWisdom. No explicit Save operation is necessary.

By default, iWisdom will create a Wisdom folder within your home directory, and then a sub-folder named iWisdom, which will contain your initial collection of Wisdom.

The following files and folders may be found in a Wisdom Folder.

files.txt
Your primary wisdom folder will contain this file, which is used to maintain a list of known wisdom files that you have accessed.
html
This folder will contain an HTML representation of your wisdom collection. As you create and edit your Wisdom collection, one HTML file will be created and maintained for each piece of wisdom. Index files will additionally be generated in this folder if you have used the publish function available from the Export tab.
id
This folder will contain a shortcut file for each wisdom item. Each shortcut file is identified by it's item's ID number, and is coded to redirect to the full HTML representation of the item, found in the html folder.
iwisdom_sysprefs.xml
This file contains a backup of your system preferences.
iwisdom_userprefs.xml
This file contains a backup of your user preferences.
javascript
This folder contains javascript includes used by the web pages generated in the HTML folder.
styles
This folder contains style sheets used by your XML and/or HTML files.
views.txt
This file contains a list of the various views you have created.
xml
This folder contains your actual wisdom collection. Each wisdom item is stored in a separate XML file. These files are stored in folders with names based on their authors, and within each author folder, a subfolder for each work or source (such as a book) from which a wisdom item is taken. The XML files themselves have names based on the titles of the items. See the wisdom RDDL page for more information about the format of the XML files.
xslt
This folder contains XML Stylesheet Template (XSLT) files that are used to generate the HTML content. Note that the contents of the javascript folder, the styles folder, and the xslt folder may be populated on the Export tab by applying a selected theme.

One of your iWisdom folders should be designated as your primary wisdom list. This folder will be used to store the list of all the iWisdom files known to you, and for other purposes. A folder can be designated as your primary data store on the View Tab. Your primary file will be opened automatically each time that iWisdom is launched.

Open Known

iWisdom will remember the location of all Wisdom Folders you have accessed. All of the previously accessed data stores are available via the File / Open Known menu. A separate set of View options will be stored for each file, and restored when the file is opened. You may instruct iWisdom to drop a file from its Open Known list by telling the program to forget about it. This can be done on a dialog when trying to open a file or folder that cannot be found, or on the View Tab after opening a file that can be found.

Name of Currently Opened Folder

The name of the currently open folder is shown at the bottom left corner of the iWisdom screen. Hovering over this name with your mouse will show the fully qualified path to the file.
